Yes, we are still here and we are still fighting to prevent Wadsworth from completing a well in Chippewa Twp. Although we are unable to say we have won yet, we have been very successful at organizing and finding new ways to fight. Some of them have never been tried in the State of Ohio. We need your help to continue the effort!

15 homeowners along the route of the pipeline have come together and hired the same lawyer as the Save Our Water group. At this point, we have spent over 100 thousand dollars in legal and technical research fees with more to come. Watch for fund raisers in the near future.

Please review the important reference material on page 2 including the report by Geochemist Bill Gould regarding the damage the well will do to the aquifer that we depend on for water. Click here for the report but be sure to review the rest of page 2.

Also, please take the time to use the links provided to write to your Senators and Representatives. Sample documents are provided for those unsure of what to write.

NOTE: If you live in the limits of Doylestown, don’t believe the statement we have heard many times. It goes like this “I don’t have a well, so it won’t affect me.” Your water comes from a well just like those of us in the township. The only real difference is the pipe to your well is longer than ours and yours passes through the water treatment plant before it gets to you. The Village of Doylestown gets its water from a well and that well is at risk, just like everyone else. Possibly more so because of the amount of water drawn and the fact they can’t stop pumping. At home, we could stop pumping and let the well refill itself (if it can). The Village doesn’t have that luxury; they can’t stop pumping, they can only slow it down by implementing things like watering bans.

Why is this site here?

We are trying to prevent the loss of a natural resource for all of the residents of Chippewa Township, Doylestown and Marshallville. Very simply, we are trying to prevent our wells from going dry as a result of overuse of our aquifer.

A short history of how we got here .

Between September and December 2001, the cities of Barberton and Wadsworth entered into an agreement for Barberton to supply Wadsworth with water from a well field they owned in Chippewa Township near Hametown and Black Diamond roads. The contract called for Wadsworth to withdraw an average of 1.1 Million gallons of water per day, with a 3 Million gallon limit “unless an emergency situation arises.” Since then, wells have been drilled and capacity tests run. There have even been meetings about the results. Unfortunately, much of this was done without the knowledge of most of the local residents. So, for the last 5 years, we have been trying to fight the installation of a pipeline between the well field and the Wadsworth water treatment plant.

What are we trying to do?

We want everyone to be aware of the impact of Wadsworth pulling water from the aquifer we all depend upon. Once you are aware, we ask that you become actively involved in the effort to stop Wadsworth from completing the pipeline.
